• Pesky viruses, spyware and junk ware removed
    • I use a variety of software tools to remove practically any virus that I have run across.  If I can't get rid of it, I will offer to save your data, if possible, and to restore your system using your system restore disks that you have carefully set aside right where you can find them if needed.  If you can't find your system restore disks I can still probably help. I will not load illegal software, so don't ask.  You must have the license for the software if you want me to install it.

  • Hard drive rescue
    • I use a couple of very good tools to TRY and rescue a crashed hard drive.  Basically, if it is still spinning we can usually rescue some if not all of the data.  If it is just going click..click..click, better take it into Lincoln, or send it off. Be prepared to spend at least $300.00 if you have to send it away.  The software I use costs about $80.00 per license (not including tax).  I buy a new license every time because that is the way the vendor offers it.  No guarantees.
  • Memory upgrades
    • Memory is fairly cheap right now. If your system is slow as molasses in the winter, let's clean it up (de-virus, de-junk, defrag etc) and then add some memory.  That will usually add a few years to the life of an older computer.  Some memory is hard to get, so I don't keep a lot of memory in stock. Don't plan on getting it right back, usually it takes about three to five days to get it in unless you want me to go to Lincoln and pay retail.
  • Drives added or replaced
    • I can usually add or replace a drive on the spot. I try and keep a couple of hard drives and a couple of DVD burners on hand and a few controllers for SATA vs. the older stuff.  I will transfer your data from your old drive to the new one, clone if for you if you wish, but remember, you will need to show me your licenses for the operating systems and the software if you really want me to clone it, plus you will need to pay for the cloning software if you don't want to provide your own.
  • Limited motherboard repairs
    • I'm no electrician. I fix stuff based on a big old book I keep on my desk and the 30 years of experience I have working on computers. I do have a meter and know how to use it, but the truth is that normally, if a motherboard goes casters up, you might as well just buy a new computer. New computers are so cheap now, that by the time you pay for my labor and the parts, you have the price of a new one in your old, slow and probably out of date computer.  Not to say that I won't fix it for you, I'm just telling you the deal.
Technical Support
  • Operating Systems
    • DOS 2.0  through Windows 7. I can send you in the right direction with Linux or Apple stuff, and might be able to help a little, but I'd prefer to stick to Windows related problems.  There are plenty out there.  Forget how to do this or that, just call me and I'll help you on the phone if I can. If it's simple I won't even charge you.  If it takes more than fifteen minutes then I'll need a little fee...usually $25.00 and that covers the entire incident, no matter how long it takes. I will probably have you call me on my house phone if we go over 15 minutes however. I only have so much battery in my cell phone.
  •  Application Programs
    • Ok, if you get stuck on a problem in a program like Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, or maybe CorelDraw or something along those lines, call me up.  I have been using computers since 1976 when I bought my first Radio Shack computer, so I have a fairly good feel for how these things work. No promises, but I can usually figure out what is going on after a little noodling, some Google research and even the occasional glance at a users manual.  Don't call me about any problems with Access. I'd rather swim ten miles in molasses.
  • What I don't work on or offer
    • Monitors and Printers - Get a new one if your old one is busted. The new ones are cheap and work great.
    • I don't sell printer ink, paper, blank DVD's or CD's -Go toWalmart or Best Buy. They sell them for what I can buy them most of the time.
    • Wholesale anything. I do get a few breaks from a few vendors, but most of the time I just buy from the same guys you would. I usually don't mark up parts.  I just charge labor and once in a while a little for gas if I have to travel a long ways.
    • High end network stuff.  I'm not a certified network guy. I can find my way around most home and small office networks, but I don't work on banks, WAN's etc. Sure, I'll try and help, but if you have a sophisticated network with lots of remote stuff, security layers etc. You need to be talking to somebody else.  I'll tell you up front if I think I can do you any good, and if we get into something that I don't have the knowledge to fix, I won't touch it, nor will I charge you for finding out that I can't do this or that. The older I get, the dumber I find out that I really am about some of this stuff.
